A collection of 34 stories about Jesus from birth to death and Revelations from John. These stories are designed for children ages 5-8 but I have found them to be appropriate for 3/4 yr olds as well. These stories provide a great introduction to who Jesus is as a person, young children love to get to know through his life stories.
The book contains patterns for making your own lesson materials or you can order from "Worship Woodworks".

The materials Worship Woodworks handcrafts are made to the specifications of the late Dr. Sonja Stewart and Dr. Jerome Berryman. These materials are used in the stories Sonja and Jerome developed using the Montessori Method for teaching young children Bible stories and how to worship in a setting limited only by each child’s readiness to learn. Adults often say they also understand more details in these favorite Biblical stories after observing them in this childrens program setting.

There are a few places to purchase resources for this approach; just Google “Godly Play” to view the list. I started this blog because every week, I receive emails from people asking about the creation of new stories. Whenever I have a new story available for commission, I can now post it in the Garage Shop Ministries blog.
If your faith community needs Godly Play resources, please feel to contact us and we’ll be happy to see if we can help. The demand has become so great that in order to keep up, we have recently recruited some parishioners for this ministry. Please note: we do not sell Godly Play resources, but we do occasionally accept commissioned work for material cost only. For details, see the Commissions page.
Blessings, Mark

Young Children & Worship ...by Sonia Stewart & Jerome Berryman

Sonia Stewart & Jerome Berryman created "Young Children & Worship" together. These stories are very similar but much more simplified as compared to the Goldy Play collection developed solely by Jerome Berryman.
These stories start with old testament stories, new testament stories, and parables with liturgical lessons and parables sprinkled within the year. This book contains patterns for making your own lesson materials, many of which can also be used for the Godly Play series of stories.

Godly Play is based upon the recognition that children have an innate sense of the presence of God. All they lack is the appropriate language to help them identify and express it so it can be explored and strengthened. The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that enhances the child’s authentic experience of God so it can contribute to the creative life of the child and the world.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

An approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
You may be wondering how these materials help the religious life of children? If an adult hears a beautiful passage from the Bible, the adult might take a Bible, find the passage, and read it slowly again and again. He or she may think deeply about the words and perhaps speak to God in a thankful or hopeful prayer. But a little child, too young to read, needs another way. In an atrium the child can ponder a biblical passage or a prayer from the liturgy by taking the material for that text and working with it - placing wood figures of sheep in a sheepfold of the Good Shepherd, setting sculpted apostles around a Last Supper table, or preparing a small altar with the furnishings used for the Eucharist. Older children who do read often copy parables from the Bible, lay in order written prayers from the rite of baptism, or label a long time line showing the history of the kingdom of God.

The Sunday Paper

Thank you for visiting us on the web! The Sunday Paper is a home-based business, providing quality materials for Christian Education. Our customers include parishes, bookstore, dioceses and individuals.
We still go by the principles set forth in the first ad flier we ever sent out: "The Sunday Paper is informal, whimsical, faithful to Scripture, and in dead earnest. It is not condescending or cute. It helps children to acquire a vocabulary of crucial Scriptural images, and to relate the Gospel to the Old Testament, the life of the Church, and their own lives."
The Sunday Paper offers you resources, not only for Christian education, but - with the help of an increasingly varied web of partners - for liturgy and play. Sacrament and celebration, pageants and prayer, are as much a part of Christian education as Bible study; liturgy in which children are full participants is the oldest Christian curriculum and still the best - inviting children to wonder, to imagine, to pretend, and to make the stories and rituals part of their inmost selves.

This is a wonderful web site with stories, activities, costumes, and inspiration about an important saint in children's lives. The stories help children identify to 'Santa' as a man and a saint, someone who carries the spirit of Christmas not the focus. It helps us put the focus of Christ back in Christmas. Celebrate his feast day on December 6th as a way to prepare your children for the birth of Christ to follow on the eve of the 24th!
